One myth about Apollo is about Apollo killing the great serpent Python, which is a giant snakelike serpent which lies in the mountain of Delphi. Python, when Leto was pregnant with Apollo and Artemis, had chased Leto and tried to kill her. When Apollo was 4 days old, he asked Hephaestus to make him a very good bow. The bow was golden with golden arrows. After he got the bow, young Apollo decided to slay the Python. Apollo went to Python's cave. When Python saw Apollo, he boiled with rage. Python lunged at Apollo but Apollo was quick enough to dodge it. Apollo then shot an arrow, and slayed the monster. Since some people thought that what Apollo did was bad, the other gods forced him to create something in memory of Python.
Thus he founded the Pythian Games, which is the starting point of the Olympics.
